It is a 101-year-old man native to the Italian city of Rimini. He was born during the Spanish influenza epidemic of 1918 and grew up between two world wars.
He now becomes the oldest citizen to recover from Covid-19 in Italy.
The patient, he identified himself as the «Mr. Q,» he entered the local hospital in Rimini, seven days ago after testing positive for the virus. However, this is not the first pandemic to deal with.
Mr. P was born in 1919 while the Spanish influenza pandemic was ravaging his city.
The city of Rimini, with 330,000 inhabitants, is the second most affected after Lombardy in the north.
As soon as the old man began to recover, it became «the story everyone talks about» the hospital. «Everyone saw hope for the future of all of us in the recovery of a person over 100 years old.»
Mr. P was discharged from the hospital. «Mr. P did. His family brought him home last night, to teach us that even at 101, the future has not yet been written.»
The man became part of the 9362 people healed since the start of the pandemic in Italy.
The mayor of Rimini, Gloria Lisi, says that this news represents «a hope for the future of us» and revealed her joy at knowing that man has resisted the virus and is resting at home.
It’s hard to hold on to hope with so much negative news. But certainly the story of Mr. P reminds us that we must never give in to adversity, for humanity has the power to surprise you, even in the grim and terrifying reality of a pandemic.
