After a battle with the British registration authorities, a couple obtained the right to name their newborn son «Lucifer».
The event took place in Derbyshire, where the baby was born on April 6, but in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic it had not been possible to legally register the baby.
After the restrictions were lifted, the couple formed by Mandy and Dan Sheldon registered their son in the civil registry under the name «Lucifer».
She was horrified
At the time the little boy was registered, the officer in charge resisted at first, being horrified by what is already known by that name, as she believed it to be «satanic».
«He told us that he could never find a job and that the teachers would not want to teach him. I tried to explain to her that we are not religious and that in Greek Lucifer means «bearer of light and dawn,» but she would not listen,» Dan Sheldon said.
According to The Sun newspaper, the couple had to leave the office after a request from the official, who would examine whether it was legal to register minors under that name.
The couple said that at the end of the lengthy process, their son got the name they wanted for him, despite the registrar’s denials.
«In the end he did, but gritting his teeth. Honestly, we thought it was a beautiful and unique name. We didn’t expect to receive so much grief from it,» said the boy’s father.
