The Christian Association of Police, Military, Emergencies and Security, Mission 365 and the Christian Police Coordinator, signed an agreement to collaborate with the Association of Christian Psychologists of Hispanic America (APC).
After an extensive trajectory of work in suicide prevention in the security forces and armed forces, the organizations represented by Juan Manuel Nombela and Miguel Ángel Alcarria, respectively, signed the aforementioned collaboration agreement to work together in suicide prevention.
It is estimated that the police suicide rate in Spain, according to official figures, is nine times higher than in the general population and in Latin America it shows equally alarming figures; it has increased during the period of confinement due to the Pandemic.
They considered it necessary to join forces
That is why both organizations have considered it necessary to join forces to be more effective and efficient in the social plans they are deploying, offering support to all those citizens who are in depression or present suicidal behavior within the police, military, emergency and security fields.
The collaboration between the two organizations has been possible thanks to the long relationship between Misión 365-CPC and Miguel Ángel Alcarria, the current president of the APC, with whom they already collaborated in this sense when Miguel Ángel was the president of the Group of Evangelical Psychologists of Spain. After Miguel Ángel’s transfer to Mexico, and his election as president of the APC in Latin America, this collaboration was resumed, placing at the disposal of those colleagues who required it a great cast of psychology professionals who were specialists in the field, with the desire to protect and bring hope to those who watch over our security.
Origin of the agreement
This agreement originates within the Plan Vence, Mission 365 suicide prevention program and the ASP National Police union, with the desire to help eliminate suicide within the Security and Armed Forces.
«It is about joining forces, we are not the only ones in this struggle, others started before… like the Platform Zero Suicide Police; Angels of Blue and Green; the Association the Railing and a long etc…», they say in a statement.
«With this agreement, we intend to be more efficient in this covid-19 era, to give a first response and to be able to refer the comrade to the professional who can give him the appropriate help,» says Juan Manuel Nombela, of Misión 365-CPC.
