We often ask ourselves the question of whether God forgives small sins and the great sins do not, but it turns out that for God there is no difference to them.
Therefore, we must let lying is a small sin and stealing is a greater sin, because before God, both are equal. That means, for God, both lying and killing, he has the same level of disgust.
Similarly, God’s forgiveness is available to all those who repent of their sins. But not any repentance, but one that is genuine in front of his presence.
God offers his forgiveness for every sin we sincerely repent of. Without repentance there is no forgiveness.
Genuine repentance takes you to four stages:
- Recognize that you’re wrong
- Confessing the sin committed or being committed
- Ask God for forgiveness.
- Step away from continuing to practice that sin.
However, it is very important to carry out these stages. Keeping faith in Christ’s redemptive work on the cross for forgiveness of all sins, whether small or great.
We must recognize our sin and confess it to Him. No matter how terrible your sin is, think that He will not be horrified of anything you can tell Him; Besides, He already knows everything.
Remember that the word of God says, “And there is no created thing that is not manifest in His presence; but all things are naked and open in the eyes of the one whom we have to account for“; Hebrews 4:13.
So it is foolish not to recognize our transgressions and thus squander his precious promise that: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive our sins, and cleanse us of all evil”; 1 John 1:9.
The Bible tells us: “For we do not have a high priest who cannot pity our weaknesses, but one who was tempted in everything according to our likeness, but without sin. Let us therefore approach the throne of grace entrusting ourselves, in order to attain mercy and find grace for the rightful help“; Hebrews 4:15-16.
This means that the same Jesus who went to the cross instead of us to pay the price for all our past, present and future sins. Consequently, he is now sitting to the right of God the Father interceding all the time for us. It is as if he is our defense attorney, who always understands us and opens the way to God’s forgiveness.
Sin That Has No Forgiveness
Now, I know that many times this question comes from having read or heard what Jesus says in Matthew 12:31-32. There Jesus tells us that there is only one sin that will never have forgiveness, which is “blasphemy against the Holy Spirit“.
“Wherefore I say unto you, Every sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men; but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. To anyone who says a word against the Son of Man, he will be forgiven; But whosoever speaks against the Holy Spirit shall not be forgiven, neither in this century nor in the future”; Matthew 12:31-32
